From Lived Experience to Lasting Reform.

“Our city needs a Clerk of Court who understands how the office should work, and is willing to work hard to bring the changes we need. I am a fighter and an overcomer – I know, firsthand, how the Clerk’s lack of knowledge and care can hurt victims, the wrongly accused, convicted people, and families. We need a Clerk who values doing the job right!”

–Calvin Duncan, J.D.

Meet Calvin

A proven advocate for justice, Calvin Duncan, J.D. offers a vision for fairness, transparency, and service in our courts.

Calvin Duncan is a dedicated legal advocate and criminal justice reformer with over three decades of experience in legal research, appellate advocacy, and community reentry work. After spending 28 years wrongfully incarcerated, he earned a Juris Doctor degree, founded The Light of Justice program, and has worked with prominent legal organizations to expand access to justice and challenge systemic inequities.

During his 28 years of incarceration, Calvin Duncan helped hundreds of others who, like him, were wrongfully convicted—many by non-unanimous juries and questionable evidence. He fought for and won access to police records that revealed critical errors and proof that they charged the wrong person. After release, Calvin's leadership resulted in Louisiana ending the non-unanimous jury system.

Calvin now seeks to bring integrity and accessibility to the Clerk of Criminal District Court.
