Calvin Duncan spent more than 28 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

Now he’s running for Clerk of Criminal Court to make the legal system more just, transparent, and fair for all.

Lived experience.
Legal expertise.
A fighting spirit.

At 19, Calvin was arrested for murder and ultimately sentenced to life in prison. For decades, the Orleans Parish Clerk of Criminal Court denied him access to the records he needed to challenge his wrongful conviction.

Instead of giving up, he educated himself and became a jailhouse lawyer in Angola, helping hundreds of incarcerated people access the courts. When he finally won his release, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and his J.D. from Lewis and Clark University of Law.

“I’ve spent my life fighting for people’s right to access the court and seek justice. Now I’m running for Clerk to make the criminal legal system work better for everyone - crime victims, defendants, and the public alike.”
